Our First Computer Lab

After much hard work and many grassroots fundraising campaigns, February saw the opening of our first computer lab in Cochabamba, Bolivia.  The lab is equipped with 10 new and generously donated laptop computers and serves approximately 50 students ages 6 to 18.  Free computer classes are offered which teaches the students basic keyboarding and computing, introduction to word processing applications and educational software is used to reinforce core subjects such as math, science and reading.

Computer Workshops for Teacher and Educators

In March we established our first teachers and educators’ computer workshops for teachers and school administrators working in schools in low-come and rural communities in the outskirts of Cochabamba.  The workshops were taught by our Board President and local volunteers and aimed at improving basic computer skills such as typing and capabilities in Windows and Microsoft office and helped them to design and implement technology-based curriculums in their classrooms and schools.  The workshops reached over 50 educators and we plan on continuing into the new year.

Afterschool Education Support Services

In July we began offering after school tutoring programs and computer classes at family shelters throughout the Department of Cochabamba.  The program sent international and local volunteers to various family shelters and orphanages to assist your women and children living there with homework assistance, provided additional math, science, and reading lessons, and free computer classes.

Board Members Visit

We were blessed this year to welcome Board members Oscar and Luisa Armijo to Bolivia.  During their three week stay they toured our many projects and met our wonderful staff and the many great organizations we work with.  The team was very excited and grateful for their visit and we hope to see them again soon!
